Carolyn Harris

Carolyn Harris realised her potential later in life by being elected a Member of Parliament  for Swansea East in 2015 and representing the Welsh community she grew up in.

She has made a career as an all-action campaigner and continues to be a driving force in instigating menopause awareness and change across UK Parliament. She created an APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) to tackle the lack of understanding around menopause among policymakers, the public and employers.

Following a successful private member’s Bill in Parliament on October 29th led by Carolyn, the government committed to reducing the cost of HRT prescriptions in 2022, introducing a Menopause task force and making menopause a priority in the Women’s Health Strategy. She pushed for a law to make menopause MHRT free in England, like in Scotland & Wales. The government finally changed their policy, and on April 1st 2023, the government reduced the cost of HRT for women to less than £20 a year.

The Government Taskforce, co-chaired by Carolyn Harris and Minister for Women’s Health Maria Caulfield, will consider how medical school & GP education and training, workplace policies & guidelines, and peer groups could improve support for women, as well as introducing menopause education to secondary schools.
